ITV addresses some of its inequalities in pay with an increase of £200,000 for Holly Willoughby
Holly Willoughby has reportedly earned herself a 30% pay rise to bring her salary in line with her ‘This Morning’ co-presenter Phillip Schofield. It is believed Phillip was pocketing £600,000, whilst Holly was on £400,000 but during recent contractual renegotiations she has finally achieved parity with her 11 yearlong TV “husband”.
Like the BBC, which following the publish of its report, clearly showed a gender pay divide with only a third of the BBC’s 96 top-earning talent were women and that its seven best-paid stars were all men.
Lord Hall, the director-general of the BBC, when questioned about the fairness factor confirmed “Is that where we want to be? No.”
Will future reports show changing trends? The difficulty however is that the presenters often have different roles, news anchor Huw Edwards is one of the best paid news readers but he takes on technically difficult roles such as election coverage which could possibly justify his larger salary.
The bigger question should be to look at the lower paid roles where you can clearly see direct comparisons for individuals in the same role but would potentially still see women on lower salaries.
