Updated ACAS guidance on managing redundancies
ACAS reports that they have received an increase of more than 160% over June and July 2020 compared to the same period of 2019 in relation to guidance and advice in handling redundancies.
With the fast-changing pace in circumstances relating to the Covid-19 pandemic, businesses should take care to ensure that they are not caught out by redundancy legislation, particularly in relation to laws on collective redundancy procedures (which apply when 20 or more staff are made redundant within 90 days).
With this in mind, ACAS have released updated guidance on Managing Staff Redundancies which includes guidance on the following topics:
● Make a redundancy plan
● Avoid compulsory redundancies
● Redundancy consultations
● Select employees for redundancy
● Give employees notice of redundancy
● Work out redundancy pay
● Support your staff and plan for the future
