Wage Increases for 2021
Employers should be aware that wage bills will increase in 2021, particularly for those that employ workers aged 23 - 25, as the National Living Wage qualifying age will be lowered to 23.
National Living Wage
From 1 April 2021, the National Living Wage will increase by 2.2% (19p per hour) from £8.72 to £8.91.
It will be payable to all workers aged 23 and above (currently only workers aged 25 and above qualify).
National Minimum Wage rates
The National Minimum Wage which is payable to those from 16 - 22 also increases from 1 April 2021, as follows:
● 21 to 22 an increase of £0.16 to £8.36 per hour
● 18 to 20 an increase of £0.11 to £6.56 per hour
● 16 to 17 an increase of £0.07 to £4.62 per hour
● Apprentices under the age of 19 or in their first year will receive an increase of £0.15 to £4.30
Statutory rates for maternity, paternity, shared parental pay, adoption and sick pay
From 12 April 2021 the weekly rate for family related leave increases to £151.97 (77p increase).
Statutory Sick Pay rates increase by 50p to £96.35 per week.
